I Didn't Realize How Important Roof Vents Were Until Summer Hit

When I first bought my greenhouse, I thought the door alone would be enough for airflow.
Spring was perfect. Everything grew fast, the temperature stayed comfortable, and I honestly didn't think much about ventilation.
But once summer arrived, the greenhouse became a completely different environment.
By midday, the heat inside built up way faster than I expected. Some plants started looking stressed even though I watered regularly. The leaves would droop during the hottest hours, and a few tomato flowers started dropping before producing fruit.
At first, I thought maybe I just needed to water more.
But then another greenhouse owner told me something simple:
"Heat isn't always the problem — trapped heat is."
That's when I decided to add roof vents with automatic openers.
Honestly, I wish I had done it sooner.
The difference inside the greenhouse was noticeable almost immediately. The air started moving naturally, humidity felt more balanced, and the temperature stayed much more stable throughout the day.
Now, when the greenhouse heats up, the vents automatically open on their own and let the hot air escape through the top. I barely have to think about it anymore.
My tomatoes started setting fruit more consistently, the plants looked less stressed during hot afternoons, and overall the greenhouse just became a healthier environment to grow in.
Looking back, I didn't realize how important proper ventilation really was — especially during summer months.
A greenhouse holds heat incredibly well, which is amazing during colder seasons… but in summer, good airflow becomes just as important as sunlight and watering.
"It turned out to be one of the best upgrades I made for my greenhouse."
